Sandra Portal-Andreu is a Miami-based interdisciplinary director, producer, and choreographer of Colombian and Cuban descent. Rooted in both cultures, she draws from this dual heritage as a source of inspiration, working across dance, theatre, and film to examine belonging, ecology, and intergenerational memory. She creates immersive, devised performances that center embodiment, presence, and lived experience. Her recent projects include Terra Firma, developed with Miccosukee elder Betty Osceola and dancer Stephanie Bastos; writing and producing her short film Cinco y Sueños, currently in post-production; and the development of Juana, a new theatrical adaptation of Los Cuentos de Juana by her late cousin, Colombian writer Álvaro Cepeda Samudio.

Sandra is a recipient of the Miami Individual Artists Grant, the Dance Miami Choreographer’s Grant, and a Telly Award for her work CIRCA/MIA, presented at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Her work has been presented at La Jolla Playhouse’s WOW Festival, Movement Research at Judson Church/NYC, Live Arts Miami, Miami Light Project, PBS Filmmaker, and Cucalorus Film Festival. She has collaborated with Infinity Machine, Sol and the Tribu, and Sarasota Contemporary Dance, among others. Additional choreographic credits include Fiddler on the Roof (Zoetic Stage), Miami Motel Stories: North Beach (Juggerknot Theatre), The Tempest (New World School of the Arts), Pippin and RENT (NOVA), and Three Little Birds and 21 Chump Street (City Theatre Miami).

With over twenty years of experience across stage, site, and screen, her practice is grounded in performance, from dancing with companies such as Josée Garant Dance and Florida Grand Opera to appearing in commercial and film projects including DirecTV, Lifetime, and El Último Balsero. Sandra teaches Immersive Theatre & Performance Practice, Movement, and Somatics at New World School of the Arts. She is a member of Teo Castellanos D-PROJECTS and an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Sandra holds degrees from Florida State University (BFA) and Barry University (MS) and is completing an MFA at Point Park University focused on interdisciplinary Latinx theatre-making.
